Tours of Florence
Your English speaking driver-guide will meet you at your hotel at 7:30am to leave for your private day excursion into the Tuscan region, about 2,5 hours north of Rome. Florence represents the cradle of Renaissance, thanks to the Medici court and their support to various artists and writers, and became the central point for the cultural life during 15th and 16th centuries: earlier during 13th and 14th centuries Florence gave us some famous character like Giotto, Cimabue and Arnolfo di Cambio. You will start from Santa Maria del Fiore, Filippo Brunelleschi’s best work finished between 1420 and 1434, also if the primitive project belonged to Arnolfo di Cambio who started the construction in 1296. Then proceeding with Piazza della Signoria, in the historic city centre, where you will admire Palazzo della Signoria, named also Palazzo Vecchio, located on a corner of the homonymous square: initially it was the seat of Priors of arts (heads of guilds) then it became temporarily, under Cosimo I of Medici, the place of Medici government.
Then we continue to Ponte Vecchio which represents one of the most famous bridges in the world and the most ancient in Florence. We have a proof of his existence since the 10th century, but a flood of the Arno in 1333 destroyed the primitive structure. Next the Uffizi Gallery designed by Vasari for Cosimo I in 1560, or the Academy Gallery palace founded by the Grand Duke Peter Leopold, well known museum because it hosts famous sculptures like the “David” of Michelangelo. For lunch your driver-guide can suggest some local Tuscan “trattoria” and before leaving you will stop in Piazzale Michelangelo to enjoy the most beautiful panorama overlooking the whole city. At the end of the tour you will drive back to Rome, about 3 hours, to be dropped off at your Hotel.
